How to Stay Motivated to Lose Weight

There are days when we feel discouraged and find it hard to follow through a fitness plan. This is probably the hardest phase of any weight loss journey. How do you get the motivation to keep going? Here are some tips for when you are lacking motivation to lose the pounds.

Set S-M-A-R-T goals.

If “to get fit” is your main goal when you workout everyday, chances are frustrations would creep in after a week or two. Becoming fit is not achieved overnight. As you go through your journey to fitness, set specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound goals a.k.a SMART goals. Find a workout buddy!

It's not always fun when you're in this journey alone. Find someone you can walk, run, bike, or hike with like your sibling, life partner, best friend, or even a fitness group. Be each other's motivation.

Try something new.

Sometimes daily trips to the gym can be boring. Try something new and fun! Enroll in a Zumba class. Do various activities with your buddies like hiking or biking. You can burn a huge number of calories with these activities, too — sometimes way more calories than a 30-minute treadmill run.

Reward yourself!

Do not feel as if the finish line is always far away from you. Celebrate each goal or milestone you've successfully achieved. This will help you stay motivated and focused on the next goals you set for yourself. Get a spa treatment, order your favorite dessert, or simply give yourself a nice pat on the back.

Stay positive.

When you believe, it will happen. Do not let failures discourage you, let these encourage you instead. Focus on the bright side of things and know that the road is not always smooth and straight, there are curves and bumps along the way.
