My IKEA Home Tour Makeover Reveal – Home Office Ideas

IKEA Home Tour Makeover Home Office Makeover

I can finally reveal my IKEA Home Tour Makeover of my new home office!

It’s no surprise that IKEA was at my home with the IKEA Home Tour Squad giving my home office a facelift. Our readers, friends, and family were confused as to why my home office even needed a makeover, because it was so beautiful…

Here’s what my home office looks like in photographs to make it look aesthetically pleasing, but…

To be honest, my office was only that — beautiful, but not at all functional. If you took away the computer monitors, printers, wires, internet router, office supplies, and all the items you absolutely NEED in your home office to function as a home business (as you see here), then of course I wouldn’t need a makeover. But that is not practical for a work from home environment. You could snap an Instagram worthy photo of my home office and it would look like it’d come out of a model home. But then you’d find me crawling out of the corner dragging all my office equipment and supplies back onto the desk and rearranging everything so that I could actually, you know, work. Because what my office looked like IRL (that’s “in real life” for those of you not hip with the slang acronyms) was this…

You get the picture? I literally have to rearrange EVERYTHING except for that 200lb art deco hutch (which by the way looks fabulous now in my master bedroom hehe – but that’s a whole different room makeover).

When we first started brainstorming design ideas, George and I shared our frustrations with our current home office set-up:
1. No matter how we arrange the room, there are visible wires and chords everywhere. Such an eye sore and can cause for safety issues.

2. There is only one desk in there currently, and because we are a two-people team, one of us ends up working either on the bed or in the formal dining room.

3. George felt the room was a little too fluffy and pretty for his creative thinking skills to tolerate, we need a design that both of us could find aesthetically pleasing.

4. I haven’t been able to film videos for my blog in my office because of lack of vanity space, odd lighting set-up, and the amount of time it took to set-up and move everything around wasn’t worth the battle to film just a 3-5 minute YouTube video.

5. We have a limited amount of storage space for the ever growing amount of beauty, skincare, hair, and tech gadgets we were receiving from brands. The only storage space I had was the lingerie chest, but the art deco hutch was primarily for display and the lower cabinets could only hold a few items.

6. Our home office had limited lighting with the exception of the small bulb in the chandelier and a couple of lamps.

The IKEA Home Tour Squad saves the day!

When Rocky, Stephanie, Whitney, Anthony, and Jesse first stepped foot into my home, I knew there was going to be magic happening that day. The IKEA Home Tour saviors is what we should really call them. They got right to work upstairs in my home office and began opening boxes that were delivered the weekend before they arrived and quickly shuffled into assembly mode.

During the “makeover” phase, George and I were able to live stream our experience and even snagged a few takeaway tips in home design from the IKEA Home Tour Squad. Be sure to check it out:

Afterward, the IKEA Home Tour Squad showed us around our new office and it was an amazing transformation! They were able to offer a solution to all of our frustrations and home office challenges, and still kept the look stylish. Let’s take a deeper look into what they did:

1. No matter how we arrange the room, there are visible wires and chords everywhere. Such an eye sore and can cause for safety issues.
Thanks to the soft close chord storage compartments in the Alex Desk, all of the wires and chords from our office equipment and chargers stay hidden from view!

2. There is only one desk in there currently, and because we are a two-people team, one of us ends up working either on the bed or in the formal dining room.
The size of the Alex Desk (51 5/8×23 5/8″), it was perfect enough to fit TWO desks in our home office while the IKEA Home Tour Squad designed the desks to be properly placed facing each other next to the window allowing for the perfect amount of natural light to enter the room.

3. George felt the room was a little too fluffy and pretty for his creative thinking skills to tolerate, we need a design that both of us could find aesthetically pleasing.
CHECK! The IKEA Home Tour Squad took all of our ideas and combined the look of minimal simplicity and my pretty farmhouse shabby chic “wants” into a fusion of modern design – PERFECTION! They were even able to keep some of the pieces from my old office, such as the lingerie chest, two nailhead tufted chairs, and dressing mirror.

4. I haven’t been able to film videos for my blog in my office because of lack of vanity space, odd lighting set-up, and the amount of time it took to set-up and move everything around wasn’t worth the battle to film just a 3-5 minute YouTube video.
This makes me the happiest because since the makeover, I’ve been filming more live streams and videos in my office now thanks to the MALM Dressing Table. It’s beautiful, sleek design also has a good amount of drawer space for me to easily access products I’m featuring in my videos. The IKEA Home Tour Squad created a vanity for me by adding an EIDSA Mirror and attaching lamps on both sides of the mirror to provide GREAT lighting! PLUS no matter where I film in my office, they set it up to where there will always be a beautiful background behind me during filming.

5. We have a limited amount of storage space for the ever growing amount of beauty, skincare, hair, and tech gadgets we were receiving from brands. The only storage space I had was the lingerie chest, but the art deco hutch was primarily for display and the lower cabinets could only hold a few items.
Now I have a place for everything, and everything in it’s place with my new GALANT Storage Combination with Drawers! We were able to add touches of our unique sense of style with decor accessories and our wireless printer fit perfectly in there. We’ve got a place for George’s photography and videography equipment, skincare beauty products and hair care products. And there’s even a combination lock on all the cabinets so my sixteen year old daughter can’t go sneaking in there to take my beauty products! Haha.

DONE! Lots, and lots and lots of lamps: floor lamps, desk lamps, and vanity lamps in addition to our chandelier light. And I love that IKEA Home Tour Squad used LED bulbs that were perfectly balanced throughout our home office to provide for ample lighting.

Your new office looks gorgeous. I’m trying to turn my spare bedroom into a home office for my voice acting and filming my celebrity gossip reports for youtube.com/joshrachlis. I wish IKEA would come and work their magic for me! And heck, maybe they could do the rest of my condo while they’re here. ?

Oh, this looks amazing. You have given me renewed appreciation for all things IKEA. I haven’t shopped there in years, but I definitely think I need to put it back on my list…. especially since I now want to create a home office that looks a lot like yours. 🙂
