Million Dollar Arm World Premiere Event #MillionDollarArmEvent

We were invited to attend the red carpet premiere of Disney’s Million Dollar Arm! I was invited as media to attend this all expense paid trip in exchange for my coverage. All opinions are my own.

Million Dollar Arm 1

Although it was a red carpet premiere, Disney went all out and stuck with the theme for Million Dollar Arm and made it a “green carpet” world premiere! It came complete with a pitching contest and tailgate inspired party with food from Subway, Pink’s Hot Dogs, and Krispy Kreme.

As humans, we all have dreams, ideas, and goals in life that we want to attain. The seed that started as a passion for creative writing, and an idea for TheItMom.com flourished and grew because I followed my dreams regardless of circumstances. Disney’s Million Dollar Arm film encompasses attainment in a funny, yet tear-jerking kinda’ way. I cried. Like a baby. But when you watch it, you’ll know why! So heartfelt, and all encompassing of living the American dream.

People from all over competed in the first qualifying round of the Pitching Contest at Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida and Disneyland® Resort in California, as well as in Tribeca at the ESPN Sports Day at the Tribeca Family Festival in New York City. All participants received tickets for themselves and a guest to see an advanced screening of the film. The top three eligible pitchers from each qualifying round were flown with a guest to compete for $1 million in the final contest, which took place right before the world premiere of Million Dollar Arm on May 6th in Hollywood. Although none of the finalists were able to pitch 100mph and win the grand prize, they did receive gift packages and the amazing opportunity of a lifetime to be attend the Million Dollar Arm World Premiere Event. There was one finalist who did pitch 94mph, which is still an amazing feat.

Baseball greats like Steve Garvey, David Wells, Clyde Wright, Eric Davis, Dave Winfield, Rollie Fingers, Don Newcombe, Clyde Wright, Ken Landreaux, and Kenny Lofton and many other sports athletes, celebrities, and sports industry giants were in attendance for the competition and “green” carpet premiere.

We had the opportunity to interview several of the film’s actors that we’ll be posting soon too, so stay tuned! And because the film was based on a true story, we also met JB Bernstein, Dinesh Patel, and Rinku Singh (the characters the film was based on).

In Walt Disney Pictures’ drama “Million Dollar Arm,” the fate of JB Bernstein’s career as a sports agent rests with finding an exceptionally gifted young cricket pitcher in India, who can be trained for an American major league baseball team

What is this movie about?

Based on a true story, sports agent JB Bernstein (Jon Hamm) finds that business has changed and things aren’t going well for his career. In a last ditch effort to save his livelihood he concocts a scheme to find baseball’s next great pitching ace. Hoping to find a young cricket pitcher he can turn into a major league baseball star, JB travels to India to produce a reality show competition called “The Million Dollar Arm.” With the help of cantankerous but eagle-eyed retired baseball scout Ray Poitevint (Alan Arkin), he discovers Dinesh (played by Madhur Mittal from “Slumdog Millionaire”) and Rinku (played by Suraj Sharma from “Life of Pi”), two 18-year-old boys who have no idea about playing baseball, yet have a knack for throwing a fastball. Hoping to sign them to major league contracts and make a quick buck, JB brings the boys home to America to train. While the Americans are definitely out of their element in India, the boys, who have never left their rural villages, are equally challenged when they come to the States. As the boys learn the finer points of baseball, JB, with the help of his charming friend Brenda (Lake Bell), learns valuable life lessons about teamwork, commitment and what it means to be a family.

This will be in theaters May 16, 2014! Be sure to buy your tickets now for a front row seat.
