Color treating my hair goes back to the age of sixteen (going on eighteen years now, wow!) when I got accepted into our high school’s cosmetology program. It was a two year program that offered me the opportunity to learn, train, gain school credits and the cosmetology hours I needed to take the state cosmetology exam upon graduating high school. It was an amazing opportunity that I couldn’t pass up, and always loved beauty and hair (it’s always been a passion of mine even as a little girl). I’ve gone from red, blonde, brown, black and purple hair and the list goes on! And because I had experience with colors and developers, I very rarely went to a salon to color my own hair (I always colored it myself).
I took a break from color treating my hair from the age of 30 until 32. But over the last couple of years I noticed that the grays in my hair (and my eyebrows, EW) have sprung up so much that I had to start coloring my hair again. Last year I tried to color AND highlight my hair (ombre style) and although it was gorgeous the first few weeks, my hair started getting really brittle and the split ends got to be so bad that I had no choice but to cut off four inches of my long hair. My hair is now medium in length, but I’m super paranoid about the damage treating and styling my hair causes.

Here’s my beauty care regimen for the busy mom:
10-minute shower:
3-minutes to wash my body using a loofah sponge and body wash
2-minutes to do a quick shave (only for areas visible to the public, c’mon now you know you do this too)
5-minutes to shampoo and condition my hair using the Dove Hair Regenerative Nourishment Shampoo and Conditioner
*Shampoo by applying to wet hair, massage into scalp and rinse.
*Condition by applying to mid shaft to ends of freshly washed hair and rise.
10-minutes to prep and style:
2-minutes to pat body and hair dry (don’t rub your sking, it will dry out your skin)
2-minutes to apply the Dove Hair Regenerative Nourishment Serum-In-Oil to damp hair.
*On clean, damp hair, spread 3 to 4 pumps of Serum-In-Oil between your hands and apply (avoid applying directly to roots)
5-minutes to blow dry hair and brush
1-minute to smooth hair with hairspray or gel
