Going To Great Lengths To Support Our Children’s Dreams and Wishes

This post is in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures

As parents, I know I’m not the only one whose gone a little overboard when it comes to supporting our children’s dreams and wishes. That is why I can’t wait to watch The House which is set to hit theaters June 30th!

When I saw the film’s trailer, I couldn’t help but relate to the storyline. And although The House goes to far greater lengths than I would (or could) as a parent for their children, I can’t help but feel a little peace knowing that others can relate. The all-star comedic cast line-up are seriously my all time favorite actors and actresses, including Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler.

Watch the trailer here:

Here’s what I know about THE HOUSE movie {which opens in theaters June 30):
After Scott and Kate Johansen (Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler) lose their daughter Alex’s college fund, they become desperate to earn it back so she can pursue her dream of attending a university. With the help of their neighbor Frank (Jason Mantzoukas), they decide to start an illegal casino in his house.

Definitely extreme and unbelievably crazy, but not too far off from what I consider “normal”! Haha!

There were several situations I’ve put myself in and made things happen by keeping my eye on my children’s prize. When Noah was a baby, I stood in line for hours around the Christmas holiday season just to get a hold of one hot toy item: Furby. They said it would be worth thousands, and to hold onto it as a collectible and so I did. But then when Noah got older, he managed to climb up to the shelf to grab hold of my precious Furby, remove it from the packaging, and play with it as a stuffed animal. It’s definitely not worth thousands anymore!

And then there’s the time that Jasmine was in eighth grade, and her class was going on a field trip that would cost a couple of hundred dollars of money we didn’t have back then. I couponed for MONTHS and tried to get groceries for free or for pennies just so I could save the extra money to spend on groceries for her to go on her field trip. Jasmine also really wanted to attend our church’s annual youth summit in Toronto Canada. We really needed to raise the remaining funds so my husband and I (along with other crazy parents) secured a fireworks booth where we sold fireworks in mid-June. The fireworks booth had no running water, electricity or air conditioning and we were exposed to 110+ degrees of dry heat in the scorching summer days (all day and night until midnight) for two weeks straight. Needless to say, we raised the funds and she was able to take her first international trip to Canada all at the expense of our sunburns, sweating, and dehydration. Totally worth it.

When Jude decided that he wanted to play peewee tackle football, our hearts dropped when we found out the fees, uniform, and registration costs were over $500 PER SEASON. Whoa! We had to put it on our credit card just to pay it upfront, and although he’s changed to his love of basketball, I am still paying the interest and payments on my credit card for his short-lived football desires.

Yes, I did all these things for my children. And all because I love them unconditionally and would do anything for them – it’s all about sacrifice! And I bet you’ve got a few stories of your own! C’mon! I’m not the only one, right? Share your story in the comments below!
