Spring Community Service Projects

This year get your family involved in Spring Community Service Projects. With the weather improving, sunny skies and temperatures raising it is easy to get involved to make an impact in your area. Community service projects are great for the entire family to participate in. Not only do they give you a great project to do together, they help you unite for a great cause.

Clean up litter. You can start simply by grabbing extra trash bags, gloves and grabber tools to help pick up litter on the sides of the road in your community. This can be in your own neighborhood, off of highways in your area or on county roads where this may not be something your local government tends to. Get your kids involved by cleaning up the community, as well as teaching them about reducing, reusing and recycling.

Volunteer at local shelters. People always seem to be aware of the need for volunteers during the cold seasons, but that need is there year round. Head out to volunteer to feed homeless, help organize donations, or other similar things at local soup kitchens and shelters. Helping the underprivileged and homeless in your community can really help you to see how blessed you and your family are.

Start a community garden. This undertaking is one that has begun cropping up all over the nation. Small community gardens are growing into large city block gardens that feed the community year round. Work on building a community garden that your neighbors can enjoy the benefits of throughout the summer, and possibly year round.

Work with your local Habitat for Humanity. One of the most impactful community service projects you can be a part of is Habitat For Humanity. Not only do they provide low income families with homes, they will teach you and your family about what are truly needs versus wants in your daily life. Habitat for Humanity has ReStores nationwide you can donate to, volunteer at or even pickup items for. You can also volunteer for days when homes are being repaired or built. Getting your family involved with this group will help you see the poor in your community through fresh eyes.

There are many ways you can get involved in Spring community service projects in your area. Check with your local chamber of commerce, local school districts or just keep your eyes and ears open for needs within your community. Volunteering is great not only for you, but as a way to teach your children about caring for others.

This is the perfect post for me. I wish our community did more of these things, but hey, why can’t I put something together. We live in a small town and so there are not big advertising campaigns to ask for help, but the churches do a good job of making sure people are not forgotten. I am going to talk with the church to see how I can participate and include my kids as well.
