While everyone is planning Fourth of July backyard BBQs and fireworks, don't forget that the celebration can begin as soon as you wake up! To encourage your children to get involved with July 4th (or to just surprise them with a fun early morning meal), try making these fruity toasts. They can be a side to a hearty meal or they can be the star of the show.
I've always enjoyed hazelnut spread on my toast, but sometimes a special occasion calls for something more decadent. Enter Jif Whips. I've only tried them a few times for sweet treats, but the creamy texture is ideal for creating a fun menu.
I loaded up on fresh fruits including strawberries, blueberries and raspberries, and I got to work. I knew that both my husband and my toddler would enjoy a sweet surprise in the morning. I used fresh sourdough bread since the slices are thick with lots of room for toppings. I also used blueberries and strawberries to create a patriotic display on each slice of bread. I did have raspberries as well, but I thought the strawberries were enough.
The recipe is quite simple, but it is a pairing to try. Whether it's served for breakfast or dessert, it's a fun way to bring the July 4th spirit to your home.
Do you have any plans for the July 4th holiday?
