Dulce De Leche Banana Smoothie Recipe

Smoothies are a thing of beauty. It's absolutely no wonder why you see smoothie shops popping up in every shopping mall, airport, or street corner. They are the ultimate refresher, but on the healthier side of the sweet treat spectrum. Fruits, veggies, chocolate- just a vague list of the types of smoothie varieties you can get your hands on.

With the recent addition of my Vitamix to my kitchen gadget army, i've gone a little blender crazy. My boyfriend isn't complaining by any means. He's had home made Cinnamon Raisin Peanut Butter, Margaritas galore, Broccoli Cheddar Soup, Hot Mulled Apple Cider, and now these delicious smoothies were all enjoyed this week. While I love a good ol' stawberry banana smoothie, I wanted to mix things up a bit and come up with something I hadn't had before. Plus, I had dulce de leche hanging out in the pantry and a handful of heavily ripening bananas that needed to be used before they were past their prime.

Dulce De Leche Banana Smoothie Recipe

Dulce de leche is a caramel made from sweetened condensed milk with a literal translation that means, “candy of milk.” (You can find it in cans near the condensed milk and baking section in most grocery stores) I always have some on hand for making quick and delicious desserts, as it's easily stored in the cabinet or pantry and sometimes I just don't have the time to stand over the hot stove making caramel.

This Smoothie recipe is really satisfying and delicious. It's smooth, flavorful, and a little different than the standard berry smoothies that I find myself getting bored of. This is a blend of ripe bananas, the delicious dulce de leche we talked about, yogurt, vanilla, almond milk, and a pinch of cinnamon to make things pop. Throw it all in the blender and you've got smoothies for two.
