For 2016, I’ve decided that I would pay more attention to my health and my family’s health. I’m not one to necessarily create New Year’s Resolutions, but I will say, this time of year is the best time to reflect and see where changes are needed to be made in our lives. During the holidays, we get so busy with shopping, entertaining and eating, that by the end of it all we forget what our normal routine is. Most of all, we start to see the effects of all the food we ate!
Three goals for the family this year and hopefully from now on; Start smart. Stay active. Keep fit. How do I plan on doing this? Simply by being aware of what we buy and put into our bodies. Also, by getting the healthy amount of physical activity for the entire family. If this sounds too simple, it’s because it is. It’s all about starting somewhere and staring smart. This is obvious, but when you purchase items the that are beneficial for your health, then you will have healthy options when you’re at home.
During our first grocery trip of the year at our local Albertson’s, we decided to look for the healthy options of items we consume on a daily basis. Everything we needed were easy to find. We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so when choosing items for breakfast, we decided that this year we will prepare more items that contain fiber and drinks that have more vitamins. We purchased cereals that contain less sugar for the children, oatmeal and fruits for the adults, and Simply Orange for everyone to enjoy. Starting with a smart breakfast contributes to our health a lot more that we think. It’s a great way to set the mood for the entire day ahead.
Our kids love milk! So this year, we wanted to pay closer attention to what exactly is in the milk they drink, since they drink so much of it. We purchased Fairlife Ultra-Filtered Milk, and they seem to really enjoy it. They use it in their cereal, they drink it during snacks and before going to bed. They even have chocolate milk available.
For days when we don’t want to eat heavy, and just want something fresh and healthy, there is Odwalla Smoothies. For those of you who have not tried these, I highly suggest you do! My husband and I love drinking smoothies as an alternative to a full course meal at times. Unfortunately, when we are on a tight schedule and don’t have time to bring out the blender, purchase fruits and clean up, we end up having to compromise. Now, we’ve stocked up on Odwalla and we can just bring it with us wherever we go. They have amazing flavors like strawberry banana, mango tango, blueberry and many more so you will always have a choice.
As far as staying active, that’s become a lot easier as well. There are so many apps, gadgets and even games that will help you stay on track and keep you moving. Not everyone has the time or means to go to the gym, but anyone can go outside and walk or go to the park and play with the kids. My family and I recently got a dog and now we’ve used his walks as a way for us to get a little bit of extra calorie burning activity in.
One device I’ve been using to keep track of my physical progress is my Misfit Shine Fitness + Sleep Monitor. It sets a daily goal for me based on my personal profile so this actually pushes me to walk or run more and it’s great that I can monitor my sleeping habits as well. It works by syncing with an app so you can conveniently monitor your progress. If you feel like this is a device that would help you, visit http://www.cokeplaytowin.com/stayfit for a chance to win your own!
So whatever your goals are this year, make sure that family health and fitness are a priority. Health goes beyond just looking good, but it will make you feel so much better and happier. Just remember to Stay smart. Stay active. Keep fit.
